Accounting software, a few Excel files, orders in emails, information stored in employees’ heads. As a business grows, so does the amount of information and the number of processes that need to be managed.
This is where Tech-Park Kaunas community company Esperonus comes in. Its business management system e-Zonus, developed and implemented by the team, brings sales, orders, production, supply, warehouse management, quality control and other business processes into one place. It can also be integrated with accounting software, e-commerce platforms, electronic signature solutions, other software, equipment and tools.
“What sets us apart is a system where the client doesn’t work for the system – the work happens within the system,” the Esperonus team says.
From custom software development to their own product
The Esperonus story began in 2003, when two friends, Kęstutis and Robertas, started developing IT solutions for businesses. At the time, there were far fewer ready-made solutions available in Lithuania, so many systems had to be built from scratch to meet individual business needs.
One such project eventually became the foundation for a shift from custom software development to a product of their own. Module by module, e-Zonus began to take shape – a business management system that today brings together sales, orders, production, supply, warehouse and quality management, along with other business processes.
Interestingly, Esperonus has been building its systems with Python since 2003 – back when the programming language was still relatively unknown.
But according to the team, technology has never been the goal in itself:
“Our strength is not simply programming. We first try to understand how a particular business actually works, and then adapt the technology to help it operate more simply and efficiently.”
When digitalisation actually changes the way people work
Today, Esperonus has a strong focus on digitalising manufacturing companies. According to the team, digitalisation is no longer about simply replacing paper or Excel spreadsheets with a system. Companies need real-time visibility into production, the ability to plan capacity, manage quality and traceability, and use their data to make decisions.
“For us, this is what meaningful digitalisation looks like – technology doesn’t simply appear in a company; it actually changes the way people work every day.”
Perhaps the clearest measure of success is what changes in a client’s day-to-day work:
“We consider it a success when a client whose order journey used to be managed through multiple Excel spreadsheets, emails and separate programs can free up time previously spent on unwanted administrative routines, access the information they need, stay in control of the situation, and see their business grow and become stronger.”
And what about AI?
Esperonus already uses artificial intelligence in its internal processes and is integrating AI solutions into e-Zonus. But for the team, it all starts with data quality.
“Artificial intelligence can be extremely powerful, but first you need high-quality, structured and accessible data.”
So before asking “Where could we use AI?”, Esperonus suggests starting with another question: “Is our data ready for it?”
A superpower? Turning chaos into a system
When asked what superpower Esperonus would like to have, the team is quick to correct the question: “Not if we had one – we already do. Our superpower is turning chaos into a system.”
According to the team, doing that requires more than technology. It also takes time and changes in habits within organisations.
And what is the Esperonus team itself like?
Stability or experimentation? “A stable foundation + experiments.”
Planning or improvisation? “Agile. A plan with room for improvisation.”
Grow fast or take it steady? “Grow sustainably.”
Tech-Park Kaunas – for what might happen next
Esperonus has been around for more than two decades, but it is still relatively new to the Tech-Park Kaunas community. The company joined around a year ago and settled at K. Petrausko Street.
The team came to Tech-Park with an established product and years of experience already behind them. What they see here first and foremost is potential – opportunities to collaborate with other companies building innovative solutions.
“For us, Tech-Park is first and foremost an environment where talking about technology, business and new ideas comes naturally. We value not only the physical space, but also the community – the opportunity to meet other companies, experts and partners, take part in events, and hear an idea over a cup of coffee that may later grow into something more.”
Esperonus takes a practical approach to collaboration as well:
“Not every solution needs to be built from scratch. Existing solutions can be integrated to offer businesses a complete, functioning digital ecosystem rather than a collection of separate tools.”
