Tech-Park Kaunas, together with the Ekonomikos ir inovacijų ministerija and its partners, has signed a cooperation agreement to establish the Defence and Security Innovation Centre “Vytis”. The centre will be located in Kaunas and will serve as a strategic hub where business, academia, and government institutions can collaborate on their shared interests. It will focus on the development, testing, and certification of defence, security, and dual-use technologies and products.

From 10-12 October, technology enthusiasts and professionals are invited to join the intensive hackathon “Fire Shield: Mission AI 2025”, organised by the Lithuanian Riflemen’s Union. Over three days, participants will tackle challenges directly linked to national security and contribute to the development of innovative solutions with the potential to shape the future of defence technologies.

Tech-Park Kaunas has taken a decisive step towards fostering inclusive, high-impact entrepreneurship by partnering with Kenyatta University Women Economic Empowerment (KU WEE) Hub under the “Strengthening African Digital Entrepreneurship Ecosystems” (SEADE) Twinning Program. The collaboration, formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding, unites two innovation ecosystems under a shared conviction: when women entrepreneurs succeed, they become powerful catalysts for economic transformation.

Kaunas-based medical technology startup “BrachyDOSE”, a proud member of the Tech-Park Kaunas innovation community, has raised 554,000 Eur in funding to further develop and test its radiation measurement technology in real hospital settings. The investment round was supported by venture capital funds “Coinvest Capital” and “BSV Ventures”, alongside business angel networks “LitBAN” and “EstBAN”.

In response to the ongoing evolution of the labour market, businesses across Europe are increasingly seeking innovative solutions to maintain productivity, collaboration, and team cohesion, regardless of whether colleagues are working from different cities or even countries. In this context, a consortium of innovation communities and universities from Scandinavia, the Baltic States, and Poland has introduced the “DistanceLAB hub”, a digital platform designed to support hybrid work models. An international team of partners from the Baltic Sea region, including experts from Tech-Park Kaunas, has developed the platform.

While entrepreneurship is, in theory, open to all, in practice women face greater challenges and responsibilities. They are often less visible and more likely to lack confidence in their abilities when starting a business. And if you are also a newcomer from a war-torn country, the obstacles multiply.

Tech-Park Kaunas as a part of the Interreg BSR Circular Spaces team provides digital tools and materials to support makerspaces, startups, SMEs, and other stakeholders in the transition towards more sustainable and circular practices. Tech-Park Kaunas, in collaboration with international partners, has become a member of the newly established the Organisation for Defence Innovation in the Nordics (ODIN). On 26 February, an official Memorandum of Understanding was signed in Riihimäki, Finland.

Ukrainian women highlight the need for empathetic integration and discover the challenges they face in establishing businesses in their new home country. How can children’s integration into a new socio-cultural environment be improved? How can language learning be facilitated or can ethnic heritage be introduced through gastronomic experiences? These are some examples of the business solutions developed by the winners of the “BSI_4Women" business development and incubation program, implemented by Tech-Park Kaunas. The program lasted four months and was designed for Ukrainian women who fled to Lithuania due to the war. 

Tech-Park Kaunas, one of the largest startup communities, will host a "Demo Day" this Friday. The event is the finale of the Interreg Baltic Sea Region BSI_4Women Business Development and Incubation Program. Ukrainian women who have participated in the business development program will present their ideas and solutions to an audience of business experts and community members.

The European Innovation Council (EIC) Business Acceleration Services has officially launched an open call powered by the EIC ACCESS+ initiative. The call offers up to 60 000 Eur in grants, covering up to 50% of the costs, to access specialised services from the EIC Service Catalogue for deep-tech startups and SMEs that have received EIC Awards or the prestigious Seal of Excellence under the Horizon Europe program. Companies can use the funds to access vital resources to accelerate their growth and scale their innovations. 

Over the weekend, the hackathon “The Flaming Shield 2024," organized by the Lithuanian Riflemen's Union and Tech-Park Kaunas, highlighted the growing trend of dual-purpose innovation. More than 200 participants gathered to develop technological innovations in cybersecurity and defense, with support from representatives of NATO's DIANA accelerator. Innovation experts emphasize that dual-use technologies are becoming a niche where small countries can take the lead in the tech sector.

The cyber defence and security innovation hackathon "Fire Shield 2024," initiated by the Lithuanian Rifle Association, will take place in Kaunas on October 4-6. Kaunas Science and Technology Park Tech-Park Kaunas and three investment funds joined forces in organising the hackathon.

Lithuania has recently been rapidly establishing itself as one of the leading countries in biotechnology. This weekend, in Kaunas, at Tech-Park Kaunas, an exclusive event took place - Startup Preschool Kaunas training, a format developed in Berlin and adaptable to different European cities. The 3-day intensive entrepreneurial course gave 15 young creators and startup enthusiasts the opportunity to deepen their entrepreneurial knowledge and improve their business planning skills.

On 19-21 April, Kaunas Santaka Valley will host one of the largest hackathons in Lithuania, Tech_Champ. Data from the Lithuanian Public Employment Service show that only 4% of more than 81 000 Ukrainians who arrived in Lithuania, are self-employed in their home country.

On 20-22 October, Tech-Park Kaunas will host the largest Baltic cyber defense and security innovation hackathon "Ugninis skydas 2023". Tech-Park Kaunas, one of the largest innovation communities in the country with more than 100 members, has engaged 39 of the country's largest companies in a programme of collaboration with startups in 2022.

According to the McKinsey Global Survey on AI (2022), the proportion of organisations using AI has plateaued between 50 and 60 percent for the past few years, impacting the increasing number of AI specialists that companies need to train or recruit.

Good deeds change the world! The team of Kaunas Science and Technology Park continues the tradition and on the 7th of November invited the whole innovation community to experience the Sweet Challenge. Startup teams and the Park administration exchanged sweets for donations to the Lithuanian Red Cross initiatives. Technology developers are finding that companies are looking for ways to engage their employees in activities that promote health and sustainability. The innovation community of Kaunas Science and Technology Park (Kaunas R&TP), which joined the Lithuanian startup #walk15steps challenge, walked the distance to Silicon Valley and collectively accumulated more than 24 million steps.

In 2021, the Lithuanian startup ecosystem saw a significant increase in investment and a several-fold growth in sales, exports and exits, but despite this, a large number of innovative businesses faced considerable challenges. According to investment funds, venture capital investment volume has broken records, with Lithuanian startups raising around 10 times more capital in 2021 than during the first year of the pandemic. The second year of the Pandemic not only brought increased VC investment volumes to the startup community but also highlighted the need for safe, consumer-driven digital innovation. How did the participants of the Kaunas Science and Technology Park's business pre-acceleration program Evolut 4.0 evaluate such changes?

Pandemic reality has shaken even the biggest players in the business, but for some it has been a valuable boost, while for others it has backed them into a corner. This autumn's final conference of the international accelerator programme Fast Forward Europe, held in Poland, "How to accelerate regional economies?" also invited Lithuanian representatives. On the 8 of December, DELFI broadcasted the annual Kaunas Startups Awards organised by Kaunas Science and Technology Park. During the broadcast, five winners were announced, whose technologies were selected as the best solutions of the year in the categories Health Technology of the Year, Robotics Solution of the Year, Breakthrough of the Year, Environmentally Friendly Solution and Technology of the Year.

Scientists from medical startup RamaZottius Lab and the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences have developed a solution to fight this disease. The team, which took part in the Kaunas STP business pre-acceleration programme EVOLUT 4.0, has developed PerioZIP gel, which consists of a polymer composite with a bioactive material for the conservative treatment and management of periodontitis.

Open to new opportunities! Seven startups based in Kaunas, Vilnius and Tallinn, Estonia, completed their pre-acceleration program this Tuesday. The program, which started in September, allowed the teams to learn about the essential stages of developing innovative products/solutions and to deepen their knowledge of pre-acceleration.

A team from Kaunas has developed a self-balancing personal mobility robot and named it "Kim-e". The powerchair by Chronus Robotics can not only replace a wheelchair, but can also significantly expand the limits of mobility options.

Robotics is transforming the metal industry, but the latest technologies are usually limited to larger companies - small ones find the initial investment too high. The Handybot team, which is breaking new ground in Kaunas Science and Technology Park's innovation community, has developed a CNC workstation automation system, a robotic platform that facilitates and optimizes the work processes of small metalworking companies.

Kaunas Science and Technology Park initiates the Kaunas Startup Awards and announces the Kaunas startups that have made the most progress in science and business. 

The amount of information in the world is growing exponentially, and data storage technologies are evolving along with it. While the first hard drive could hold just 5 MB of information - roughly one poor-quality photo - today we can store almost 26,000 times more data on our phones. Mantas Simutis, the co-founder of Genomika, a biotech startup based in Kaunas Science and Technology Park, says that while data storage technologies are improving, the principle of storing data has not changed. That's why he and his team have started to develop a much more promising way of storing information in nature's long-established repository - DNA.

The increase in e-commerce volumes during the pandemic period and the increase in parcel traffic have led many companies to consider pick-up terminal solutions. Singleton, Kaunas STP located company that cooperates with Scandinavian IoT companies, has developed an easy-to-use solution that does not require a large initial investment and is suitable for both large and small businesses.  

MedDream medical software, which provides universal access to medical data, combined with new MedCAD technology, helps to detect diseases faster by analyzing medical images. Softneta, a medical technology company based in the innovation community of Kaunas Science and Technology Park, knows how to use artificial intelligence (AI) and algorithms to speed up the analysis of medical data and ease the workload of medical professionals.

The New Reality has presented many challenges, even more so when adapting and discovering new working patterns. For example, hybrid working may lead to  arrhythmia in social relations, bias in decision-making "by sight" and "by heart", which disbalances teams. Such changes were observed by corporate team builders, technology developers and internal communication experts who met at the event "The Pandemic Reality. How to organise team work?"

At the end of last week, the international health-tech ATHIKA conference "Would you let a robot be your doctor?" took place in Kaunas Science and Technology Park. During the conference the health industry leaders shared their insights on what innovation will revolutionise medicine in the near future.

Kaunas Science and Technology Park team would like to thank the innovators who joined the Pie Day initiative in early November. You are changing the lives of children! On Wednesday, Rimantas Kaukėnas, founder of the Charitable Foundation, visited Kaunas STP Technology Demonstration Centre. 

Technology developers note that the accelerated digitalisation brought about by the Pandemic has highlighted cybersecurity gaps, making fintech security solutions one of the most receptive areas for innovation. "Idenfy", a startup based in Kaunas Science and Technology Park that develops digital tools for identity authentication, has scaled in foreign markets and found new customers in Europe, the US, Asia and Australia.

“Many CNC machine workshops are embracing machining robotics as a tool to promote increased machining efficiency and boost their machine shops' competitiveness as a result of improvements in robotics and robotic technologies”, says Linas Steponavičius, Kaunas STP innovation community member, the head of HANDYBOT.  He developed a robotic hand/a model that allows smaller machine shops to automate CNC manufacturing.

More than 20 e-rooms and 5+ hours of business talks! Kaunas STP and international partners – Tallinn Science Park Tehnopol and Turku Science Park invited 22 startups to business coaching sessions at the International Business Coaching Day 2021. The sessions were designed for incubated startups and pre-acceleration programes’ attendees developing innovative technologies and social entrepreneurs. 

The importance of soft skills has not only grown significantly during the Pandemic but has also revealed new challenges for telecommuting and hybrid work. Current trends show that employers prefer those who are disciplined, responsible, and have self-management skills.

A national competition for the Baltic Innovation Prize 2021 is now open for applications. The Baltic Innovation Prize has been established by the Baltic Assembly and the Baltic Association of Science/Technology Parks and Innovation Centers.

Welcome to the autumn session! Kaunas STP business pre-acceleration program EVOLUT 4.0 has brought together startup teams seeking to successfully attract the first investments. It all started with an inspiring story by Turing College founder Lukas Kaminskis and the startup’s experience in the Y Combinator accelerator in the USA.

The Pandemic, which lasted for almost two years, also revealed the weaknesses of the medical industry. Long queues of patients in Lithuanian hospitals have been discussed in public before, and after the healthcare system faced a crisis. It became even more obvious that the digital transformation of healthcare and making the services more available at home is a necessity.

More than 60 members of the teams of companies based in Kaunas Science and Technology Park joined the innovation community Piknic and kart racing. The adrenaline-filled event in Elektrėnai invited startups to meet new members of the Park. 

The vision and technologies of a smart city were presented at the conference "SMARTIES: Technologies that Change the City". The organizers of the event invited communities from all over Lithuania to load new knowledge about the creation of a smart city into Kaunas STP.

Innovators need not only financial security but also startup's features and flexibility. We talked about it during the Innovators Breakfast, the meetup with corporations organised by Kaunas Science and Technology Park for the new season.

It is time to strengthen digital skills training in VET institutions and deepen knowledge of digital technologies: the application of artificial intelligence, 3D scanning, augmented reality and blockchain technology. The biotechnology startup GENOMIKA, the first in Lithuania has demonstrated the possibilities of recording digital information into DNA molecules. The team has handed over a special exhibit to the Technology Demonstration Center of Kaunas Science and Technology Park. 

Kaunas Science and Technology Park located startup Brachy DOSE has started to develop a medtechsolution - a brachytherapy dosimeter, which helps to register the exposure doses of cancer patients during radiation therapy. This will have a major impact on the better quality of life of patients after completing a course of radiation therapy in the future.

Kaunas STP innovation community members the genetic research company Genomika is using biological knowledge to create the most advanced data repository. The DNA sequence was encoded for the first time in the world with the national anthem - the National Anthem of Lithuania. The tube with the recorded National Anthem in DNA will be displayed at the Centre for Civil Education.

A two-month-long International Business Pre-acceleration Program Evolut 4.0 hosted by Kaunas Science and Technology Park ended this week. A total of twelve teams from Lithuania, Poland, and Serbia graduated from the program and improved their startups.

The participants of Kaunas STP business pre-acceleration program EVOLUT 4.0 "Most Realistic" has developed an interactive simulation game in a real racing car. It is a virtual reality device integrated into the body of a sports car along with an innovative movement platform. This innovation combines two worlds: physical and virtual, thus bringing the consumer closer to the feelings of a real sports car driver. 

The first steps of MEDvisus were taken in the field of medical tourism a few years ago. This year during the first quarantine in the world the team that participated in the business pre-acceleration program EVOLUT 4.0 by Kaunas Science and Technology Park is developing a new experience of medical services for Americans.

Paulius Nezabitauskas has been elected as the new director of Kaunas Science and Technology Park (Kaunas STP). The election has been organized by the Ministry of Economy and Innovation of the Republic of Lithuania together with the shareholders of Kaunas Science and Technology Park (Kaunas STP). He replaced Dr Vygintas Grinis, who had been leading the organization for almost five years. Before holding this position, P. Nezabitauskas headed the department of Innovation and Entrepreneurship services.

In the Scandinavian countries, people tend to speak accurately and clearly during meetings, but they are familiar with humor, which they understand and accept as a positive aspect.

The final of the first call of the Lithuanian Business Incubation Center of CERN Technology (Lithuanian BIC of CERN Technologies) took place on Sep 2, 2020, the selection committee of which decided that all three participants in the final are suitable to develop new products based on CERN technologies and participate in a two-year incubation program.

Kaunas STP located startup company "Fidens" was chosen by "Zambon" company - Lithuanian team has been accepted for 12 weeks-long acceleration program. The startup creates medical equipment which helps to decrease the effect of hand tremor.
